"Our #StrongOhio bill will increase the number of private sale background checks in Ohio while also protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners," says Governor Mike DeWine about a new series of proposals he would like to see the state's General Assembly pass. The plan includes increased penalties for illegal gun sales but stops short of stricter red flag laws discussed in the immediate aftermath of the Dayton mass shooting this summer. Instead, DeWine's proposal calls for a comprehensive safety protection order plan. Some critics say the #StrongOhio plan is not tough enough; but, Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley calls it "an important start."
