Since moving here six years ago, I've heard about the world famous Walleye Run on the Maumee River every year when the ice starts to break. Every year, I've wanted to do it! This year, I got my fishing license and booked one of the last spots with Fish & Fowl Adventures to charter a boat for me and some friends to go catch our limit. Unfortunately, on our appointed day, the winds were too rough for safe boating ... instead, my buddy Greg helped me squeeze into a spare set of his waders and we walked into the current. No fish. On the last day of the season for Walleye, we tried again. It was cold. It was rainy. But, things held up long enough for us to spend a few hours on the Maumee trying to catch dinner. My buddy Greg was able to catch an appetizer. Dan, Captain Zack, and I caught some sucker fish. At least the rain held up long enough for us to smoke a cigar. Great afternoon in the amazing nature Northwest Ohio has to offer for outdoors enthusiasts. I've already booked a trip for next season and plan to come home with fish!
