Following a poor showing in the South Carolina primary race Saturday Pete Buttigieg, former Mayor of South Bend, dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination for 2020. Buttigieg did not perform well in states that had a diverse population and had trouble reaching African-American voters because a perceived lack of concern following police-citizen problems in South Bend during his term as mayor.
The question for the Democratic party now though is where the Mayor Pete supporters will show up, if they show up at all. He tangled with both Warren and Sanders over their programs and suggested Sanders would blow up the party. Biden is old school and not likely to pick up many of Buttigieg's younger supporters. That leaves billionaire Mike Bloomberg or the scenario the Dems don't want to see and that's staying at home on election day.
