You don't see this everyday, in fact you've probably never seen it. A back up emergency goalie had to come in and play for the Carolina Hurricanes against the Toronto Maple Leafs. David Ayres who operates the Zamboni and is 42 years old had to step in after both of the Hurricane goaltenders got knocked out of the game. Carolina had a lead but Ayres let in two goals allowing Toronto to close the gap in the second period. In the third however he stopped 8 shots. “That second period was a little shaky, but I told the boys in the dressing room, once we come in for the third, I’ll be settled down and ready to win this one,” he said.
