Yesterday Mayor Kapszukiewicz announced an effort to raise funds for road repair by increasing the current 3/4% payroll tax by .5%. The mayor says the money will be used for street repair and other items including universal pre-school, fund some police and fire equipment, and youth recreational programming. The total tax if this increase were to pass would rise to 2.75% in July of 2020. Officials believe the average worker would see an increase of $8 per paycheck.
The issue would appear on the ballot in March of 2020 while people are going to the polls for the presidential primary which would most likely mean a larger Democrat turnout. Would you support an increase in your payroll tax if it meant repairing streets in Toledo?
