The strike by the UAW against GM has entered its' second day with over 49,000 workers walking the picket line across the country. GM took the unusual step of releasing their offer to the union and many believe the offer is fair. The UAW however wants a bigger piece of the GM profits which are by some estimates $8 billion last year. Workers are asking for better health care, higher wages, and reopening of plants scheduled to close.
The UAW though is facing problems of its own with some union heads being investigated for misuse of union funds. With unemployment numbers looking good this year some are suggesting that GM just fire all the striking workers and hire new ones and make the company non union. This is unlikely to happen but it's fun to speculate.
