Wednesday the Ohio Senate passed the so called Heartbeat Bill by a vote of 18-13 with four Republicans joining the Democrats who voted no on the bill. The bill, if signed, would make it a fifth degree felony for a doctor to perform an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected. The punishment could include one year in jail. Governor Kasich has said he would veto the bill in which case the Senate would need 20 votes to override his veto, two more than passed the bill.
Incoming Governor DeWine has indicated he would sign such a bill, so the Senate and House my bring the bill back before the legislature after January 2019.
Do you believe Governor Kasich should just sign the bill as is before leaving office?
