The Trump administration has instituted a zero tolerance policy on people crossing the border illegally and it includes taking children from their parents until the parents are processed in the system. The children are housed, fed, and protected by government agencies until such time as they can be sent back home with their parents.
The President says it's a Democrat law, that's not entirely true. The policy itself was started under AG Jeff Sessions.
