WLS, Washington Local Schools, has announced the suspension of 7 employees who left a YMCA camp in Michigan while chaperoning a group of sixth graders. Board regulations and state licensure code prohibit teachers from leaving except for errand, these adults allegedly left to go to a restaurant where alcohol was also being served.
Councilperson Lindsay Webb does not support their firing. She suggests instead a reprimand and even started a hashtag #savetheseven.
If students are held to zero tolerance isn't it fair to hold teachers to the same. And for teachers who "work to the contract" when it suits them shouldn't they be held to the contract now?
