State Rep. Josh Williams (R. Sylvania Township) has introduced Ohio HB 84. The bill would allow both police and sheriff departments across the state to accept recruits as young as eighteen years of age. Some fourteen states already have eighteen as their cut off age. A similar bill has been introduced in the Ohio Senate by two Republican lawmakers. Cities in Ohio can already recruit younger officers if they wish because of home rule authority.
