TPS to require masks for all students and staff for new school year

Due to a substantial increase of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lucas County, Toledo Public Schools will now require all students and staff members - regardless of vaccination status - to wear face masks/coverings during the school or work day. Students using TPS transportation must wear their masks on the buses.

This new directive impacts all district schools and offices. This precautionary step is being taken, along with other preventative measures, in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community and will remain in effect until further notice.

Staff members will need to begin wearing masks as of Tuesday, August 10,and students will need to wear masks on their first day of school.

Reminder: The 2021-2022 school year for the majority of students in Toledo Public Schools will start on Wednesday, August 18. That day will be a full day for all ninth grade students and a half day for students in grades first through eighth.

NO breakfast or lunch will be served that day for elementary students (the freshmen WILL get lunch).

Other important dates:

  • All TPS elementary schools will be hosting open houses from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, so students and their parents or guardians can meet teachers and school administrators
  • Thursday, August 19is a full day of school for all students, including all high school students
  • Friday, August 27is the first day of school for kindergarteners

Most schools have their supply lists posted under the Important Information tab on their sites at www.tps.org. and remember, it's not too late to register for the 2021-2022 school year. Just go to the nearest school and fill out a registration form.
