Gun Store And Range In Sylvania? - Thursday 60 Minute Poll

Some Sylvania residents are up in arms over a proposal for a firearms retail business with an indoor shooting range at the former location of Andersons Market on Sylvania Ave.A zoning proposal submitted to the city by Midwest Shooting Center, of Cridersville, Ohio, will get a hearing 6:30pm Monday at the Sylvania Municipal building. Resident against the proposed usage are worried about the site’s nearness to the King Road Branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, and Southview High School, located on West Sylvania Avenue. Renovation or the site would cost $7 million and the business would generate $9 million a year in sales.

With15 full-time and 15 part-time employees, it's expected to generate annual payroll of $1.1 million, according to its application. The building is zoned for business use, but needs a special use variance because its gun range falls under the category of “gun club” in the Lucas County zoning law.
