Officer Anthony Dia, killed in the line of duty Saturday, was laid to rest today following a moving memorial service at UT's Savage Arena. Thousands of family and faith community members joined law enforcement officers from across the country in a moving tribute to a life well lived and cut too short.
Dia, only 26 years old, was killed while answering a call on Saturday July 4 by a lone assailant who later took his own life. Officer Dia had been on the Toledo Police force for just less than two years having become an officer in 2018.
As part of the memorial tribute a letter written by Officer Dia just months ago during Ramadan was read by friend and cousin Moustafa Rahal. Toledo Police Chief Krall also spoke, and the traditional last call from Officer Dia was played.
Following the memorial a miles-long procession proceeded to Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania for a traditional Muslim burial.
Dia leaves behind a wife and two young sons. Donations for his family can be made to an account set up in his name at Toledo Police Federal Credit Union 4280 Heatherdowns.
