Amazon To Build On Former Southwyck Property

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced today plans for the former site of Southwyck Shopping Center in the city's south end. At a press conference this morning the mayor said he will present legislation to Toledo City Council next week authorizing the city to enter into a purchase agreement with Amazon for both the sale and redevelopment of the long abandoned site.

The proposed deal would allow the city to recoup the $3.6 million invested in the site since 2014, Amazon will buy the property for $1. The new center is expected to create 10 full time jobs and over 100 part time positions once fully operational.

If Amazon fails to develop the property within four years the city can buy it back for $1. According to Kapszukiewicz "This is a huge win for Toledo and for this area or our city, which has been clamoring for years for a much-needed redevelopment on this site."
