COLUMBUS, Ohio - A committee at the Ohio General Assembly has approved a deal to raise the state's gas tax.
WTOL 11 reports a joint committee of the Ohio House and Senate approved the hike Tuesday as part of the state transportation budget. Starting on July 1, the tax on gasoline will jump 10.5 cents a gallon and raise 19 cents a gallon on diesel fuel.
Governor Mike DeWine proposed the increase to the gas tax as a way to raise funds to maintain and improve the state's deteriorating system of roads and bridges.
