TPS Administrators, Including Superintendent Facing Sanctions From State

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant and two other TPS administrators are facing sanctions from the Ohio Department of Education over a data scrubbing incident nearly ten years ago.

WTOL 11 reports Durant, Jim Gault and Brian Murphy will all be suspended for 30 days in July relating to a data scrubbing policy from 2010.

The district is accused of withdrawing students who were frequently absent, and then re-enrolling them later. The Department of Education accused the district of doing this because those students tended to score lower on standardized tests. The students were then re-enrolled after their test scores wouldn't affect the district's report card.

17 current and former TPS administrators were disciplined last year by the Department of Education. The district denies any wrongdoing with the policy.
