TOLEDO, Ohio - International League Hall of Famer Mike Hessman is rejoining the Toledo Mud Hens, this time as a coach.
The Hens announced Thursday that Hessman is joining the team's staff as hitting coach for the 2019 season. Hessman played seven seasons in Toledo, winning the 2007 IL Most Valuable Player award and was part of the Mud Hens' back-to-back Governor's Cup Championship teams in 2005 and 2006. He is also the minor league home run king, socking 433 homers during his career.
The team also announced the return of manager Doug Mientkiewicz for the 2019 season. In his one season with the club, he lead the Hens to an IL West division title and a 73-66 record.
The Hens also added Juan Nieves as the team's pitching coach. Nieves spent the last three seasons as pitching coach with the Miami Marlins.
