Jail Site Opponents Present Petitions For Vote

A proposed ballot issue that would force a new jail to be built in downtown Toledo will not go before voters.  

The Ohio Supreme Court blocked the Keep the Jail Downtown issue yesterday, ruling the organizers improperly submitted the issue to the Lucas County Board of Elections.  

Keep Jail Downtown, Lake Erie Bill Of Rights Denied For November Ballot

Petitions to get the issue on the November ballot were denied in August at the county level.  

There's no word yet whether supporters will take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
