Toledo Marks International Overdose Awareness Day

(Toledo, OH) Two Toledo events will mark International Overdose Awareness Day.

The events may be a reflection of just how pervasive the opiate epidemic has become. Toledo City Councilman Peter Ujvagi is hosting a "chalk the walk" event outside Talbot Clinical Services in East Toledo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including a moment of silence at 11 a.m.

The University of Toledo is also hosting an event where where students, faculty, and staff on both the Main and Health Science campuses can receive a purple ribbon at lunchtime to mark the day.

Both events are meant to raise awareness where three people in Lucas County die each week from a drug overdose-- 80 percent of those from opiates.
