State Highway Patrol Investigating Incident That Sickened 28 At Ohio Prison

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after nearly 30 workers at the Ross Correction Institution were exposed to a unknown substance. 

At approximately 9:10am Wednesday morning, an inmate at RCI was reported with possible signs of a drug overdose. Narcan was administrated and the inmate was transported to the hospital. 

A total of 28 people at the prison, including correction officers, nurses and one inmate were treated for possible exposure to the unidentified substance. All RCI staff are in stable condition and some have already been discharged from the hospital.

A hazardous material unit is on scene and will be cleaning the affected areas of the institution. The situation remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
