(Toledo, OH) TARTA starts a new bus service today.
With the start of classes today at the University of Toledo, TARTA begins its new role carrying students to class and around town. The transit authority and university struck a deal over the summer where students, faculty, and staff with a valid UT ID can ride free of fare throughout the TARTA service territory.
TARTA buses now cover the Blue, Gold, and Scott Park routes. UT is paying TARTA $1 million per year to manage its bus service.
Replacing and repairing its aging university bus fleet was going to cost UT more than $2 million, making the agreement an easier alternative.
