(Toledo, OH) Dozens of ProMedica workers are losing their jobs.
The downtown Toledo-based healthcare system announced Thursday the layoffs of 100 corporate and leadership employees. Another 60 vacant patient care jobs will remain unfilled.
In a statement to employees, ProMedica officials say rising operating costs and declining reimbursement rates are to blame for the job cuts with a need to improve efficiency and reduce costs as a result. All of the jobs involved are at the new corporate headquarters downtown.
ProMedica officials point out none of the eliminated jobs are related to the recent purchase of HCR ManorCare, which the healthcare provider and WellTower bought out of bankruptcy in a three-billion dollar deal earlier this year.
