(Toledo, OH) The port authority is buying One Government Center-- for a dollar.
The Ohio Department of Administrative Services once offered the same dollar-deal to Toledo city officials, if they agreed to take responsibility for much-needed repairs in the building. But past administrations decided there was too much uncertainty and backed out of buying the 22-story structure.
The port authority is putting one million dollars in escrow for those repairs and is demanding more certainty-- only buying the administrative office tower if Toledo and Lucas County government officials extend their current leases to 10-year terms.
There will be expensive renovations needed down the line: window repairs and work on its heating and air-conditioning system chief among them. The state to date has deferred maintenance on Government Center while trying to unload the downtown Toledo building.
