(Toledo, OH) Toledo's Catholic bishop weighs in on the Pennsylvania priest abuse scandal.
In a letter to be distributed this weekend to Catholic parishes across Northwest Ohio this weekend, Toledo Bishop Daniel Thomas expresses “anger and sorrow” over the recent revelations of widespread clergy abuse.
The bishop tells parishioners he was "angry, shamed, and sick at heart" when he learned of the grand jury report detailing over seven decades of sexual abuse of young boys by bishops and priests. The letter details policies in place for the prevention of such clerical abuse.
The bishop also invites parishioners to fast and pray for the healing of the victims, reform within the Catholic church hierarchy, and the purification and holiness of the church. A copy of the letter is posted on the Toledo Catholic Diocese website.
