BG Downtown Parking Fees May Increase

(Bowling Green, OH) You soon may need more change to park in downtown Bowling Green.

A BG city ouncil committee is studying a possible increase in parking meter fees in its downtown area to offset the cost of maintaining public parking spaces and kiosks.

The quarter increase would affect just over 450 downtown parking spaces, while the other 150 offer free parking for two hours at a time. Business owners are worried the increase may discourage shoppers from buying local in a small downtown.

There are other proposals being studied though-- including downtown property owners sharing in the cost, as well as totally free parking where landlords subsidize the cost of upkeep with downtown spaces and kiosks. One way or another, B-G city leaders say more money is needed.
