(Holland, OH) Springfield Schools will launch a new mentoring program when classes begin later this week.
20 adult coaches received training last week on how to be better mentors this academic year, their focus on eighth and ninth grade students who need to make a successful transition to high school. Springfield Schools received a $90,000 grant from the governor's office through a program called Community Connectors.
The school district partnered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Holland-Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and Holland-Springfield Rotary Club on the project.
Most of the coaches will focus on student-athletes, some of whom, as positive role models, will be the mother or father figure that's lacking at home.
