Manhattan Marsh to Receive Final Approval

(Toledo, OH) The final step in the Manhattan Marsh restoration may get approval today.

The Toledo Plan Commission must approve a plan to vacate all rights-of-way in a 70-acre section of the city bounded by two former railroad lines and several North Toledo streets.

The land near Chase STEM Academy is being conveyed to Toledo Metroparks for the development of an urban land preserve. The city is contributing nearly a quarter-million dollars to the project, while the Metroparks received a federal grant of $475,000 and will spend another $625,000 in levy funds.

The park district plans to remove some non-native trees from the property before opening Manhattan Marsh by fall 2019. The new metropark puts one within five miles of everyone in Lucas County.
