(Toledo, OH) Lucas County Commissioners are reducing bed space at the regional jail.
The Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio (CCNO) will see 50 fewer Lucas County inmates starting next year as part of its ongoing criminal justice reforms, as well as an effort to save about $1.4 million annually.
20 of those inmates will go to the county's work-release program, another 30 will head to the correctional treatment facility-- both state-funded programs as alternatives to jail.
Lucas County commissioners plan to eventually leave CCNO completely behind if voters approve a November bond issue funding a $155 million county jail on 25 acres in North Toledo. Regional jail officials are okay with the move, sayng it would ease overcrowding at Stryker.
