(Toledo, OH) Toledo is getting a new baseball field--courtesy of a major-league baseball hall-of-famer.
The new ballfield at Danny Thomas Park in the Old South End means a 400-thousand dollar investment from the Cal Ripken, Junior Foundation-- its first such project in Ohio despite building nearly 80 youth baseball parks across the country.
The new baseball diamond would include artificial turf, dugouts, and could be used for soccer and even lacrosse. Officials from the Cal Ripken, Junior Foundation have been in Toledo twice in recent months and due for another visit sometime this month.
The new ballfield is part of even more renovations set for Danny Thomas Park. Construction would start next spring, expected to take about 90 days. The hall-of-fame former Baltimore Orioles shortstop has attended every dedication ceremony at ballfields his foundation has built.
