(Toledo, OH) President Trump's controversial education secretary comes to Northwest Ohio today.
U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will visit and tour Penta Career Center, then meet with staff and students. DeVos is coming at the recommendation of Ohio's Republican senator Rob Portman to see the school's adult career-tech training programming.
The federal education secretary's trip also includes a stop in downtown Toledo at the Lucas County Correctional Treatment Facility, where she'll observe the high school equivalency courses provided by Penta to inmates.
In addition to the GED courses, Penta also will highlight a soon-to-launched pilot program called Working Together to Heal. That program allows non-violent male inmates to work under supervision to clear alleys of brush and debris while beautifying neighborhoods. They'll earn money to pay down court costs and fines.
