(Maumee, OH) TARTA is making the rounds trying to promote its sales tax on the November ballot.
The transit agency made presentations this week to Sylvania and Maumee city councils, but both communities want more time before making a decision to add Lucas County as a member of the bus agency's service territory. That is the necessary first step before converting an existing property tax to a county-wide sales tax.
TARTA officials contend the switch will broaden the tax base and touts a master plan that includes smaller vehicles and better service.
All six suburban communities and Toledo must approve the addition of Lucas County before the sales tax proposal can move forward. A similar effort has failed in the recent past.
