(Toledo, OH) A trio of top Toledo officials will try again to work out a deal involving a historic Catholic church.
The bishop of the Toledo Catholic Diocese has invited Toledo's mayor and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur to sit down once again today and negotiate the future of the St. Anthony church property along Nebraska Avenue. The head of the Lucas County Land Bank also will be in on the talks, as that agency likely would inherit whatever happens.
The land bank's director wants more time to thoroughly inspect the building before any deal is struck. City inspectors issued a stop-work order to halt demolition citing permit problems last week.
There's been a lot of back-and-forth so far between the sides of tearing down the vacant church and historic preservationists.
