TOLEDO, Ohio - After a meeting Tuesday morning between Bishop Daniel Thomas and Toledo city leaders, a new proposal has emerged in the efforts to save the former St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
The Bishop met with Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and the president of the Lucas County Land Bank David Mann. At the meeting, Bishop Thomas agreed to give the Lucas County Land Bank additional time to inspect the former church. A deadline for a final decision on the property was also set for June 26.
"I am sincerely hopeful that a mutually beneficial resolution to this matter can be reached - one that will in the end best serve the needs of the local community," said Bishop Thomas.
The Diocese has offered to gift the church and surrounding property to the Lucas County Land Bank for possible restoration and redevelopment.
