(Toledo, OH) Toledo's lone abortion clinic will get to stay in business.
The Ohio Department of Health granted a new operating license Wednesday to Capital Care of Toledo, ending a four-year campaign to stay open. The license allows the clinic to resume performing most abortions.
Restrictions passed by state lawmakers five years ago mandated the transfer agreements be with local hospitals and barred public hospitals from providing them. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled this year the state health department was within its rights when it revoked the Capital Care’s license in 2014 because the clinic lost its patient-transfer agreement with the University of Toledo Medical Center.
That all changed earlier this year when ProMedica agreed to such an agreement.
