(Maumee, OH) Three Northwest Ohio school districts are more than two dozen victims of a tour company that went out of business.
Parents in Maumee, Port Clinton and Van Buren schools are out big bucks after Discovery Tours filed for bankruptcy and canceled all of the school trips for districts across Ohio. The situation has prompted Ohio's attorney general to file a consumer protection lawsuit after receiving more than 700 complaints about the tour company.
A statement from the attorney general says Discovery Tours knew or should have known the company would fail to deliver on its promises and never should have accepted money.
The Van Buren school board voted to pay up to $30,000 to keep their 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. going after the company canceled. Maumee students were supposed to go to New York City. Port Clinton families had paid 50-thousand dollars for a student trip to the nation's capital next month.
