Internet Cafe Moratorium Vote Looming

(Toledo, OH) Internet cafes which want to open in Toledo could soon see a whole host of regulations.

First, there could be a six-month moratorium on any new Internet cafes opening in the Glass City. The proposed ban comes as a gaming center is being proposed near St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and Central Catholic High School.

There's concern on the effect it could have on the neighborhood. So any future Internet cafes would be required to go before the city plan commission for a special-use permit. That sets up a process of public hearings, where neighbors could bring their concerns to zoning regulators and city council before any approval is given.

Toledo City Council is expected to vote on the proposal later today, its meeting delayed a day by the May primary.
