Quiet Campaign Proceeds for Dems Seeking Senate

(Toledo, OH) There's a quiet race happening for a state senate seat among two Toledo Democratic state reps.

State senator Edna Brown is retiring from her District 11 seat due to term limits, so that opened the door of opportunity for veteran state lawmakers Michael Ashford and Teresa Fedor. Both leave the Ohio House at the end of this year because of term limits, too.

Each sought the endorsement of the Lucas County Democratic party, but Ashford got the nod.

Ashford is a former Toledo city councilman and YMCA branch manager. Fedor is a former school teacher who served in the state senate before, from 2003 to 2011--  and stunned her statehouse colleagues in 2015 when she told them during an open session on the House floor that she was once raped

Known as a champion of human trafficking, she wants to continue her focus on women and children's issues.

The two House colleagues have waged a noncontroversial campaign out of respect for each other.
