Cedar Point Opening Among Weekend Activities

(Sandusky, OH)   Thrillseekers from all over will begin pouring into Sandusky this weekend.  

Cedar Point opens its gates tomorrow for the 2018 season with another record-breaking roller coaster as the main attraction.  Steel Vengeance is the reimagined Mean Streak, boasting several records for wood-and-steel hybrid scream machines for length, height and its 90-degree first drop.

The Jet Express kicks off its annual Lake Erie tourist season this morning with special festivities. Northwest Ohio public officials will be along for the ride to Put-In-Bay after speeches celebrating the season. There also will be an update on renovations to the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, along with a tour of the historic site. The day at Put-In-Bay ends mid-afternoon following an island-style luncheon.

A free fishing weekend in Ohio starts this weekend.  Anyone who likes to fish can fish for free tomorrow and Sunday.  Lake Erie, the Maumee River and the Sandusky River are included in Free Fishing Days.  This is the only weekend this year that anyone 16-years-old and older doesn't need a license to fish.

Libbey Glass is celebrating its bicentennial with a special family day at the Toledo Art Museum tomorrow. Family-friendly activities include a giant chess game, an Egypt-related art activitiy, outdoor watercolor painting, and a sketching session. There also will be hourly glassblowing demonstrations. All activities are free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
