(Maumee, OH)Maumee's municipal court stands to lose $800,000 this year.
The new municipal court judge provided Maumee city council with an annual report, which shows the court's deficit continues to grow, mainly due to personnel costs.
That deficit jumped to $900,000 in 2016 and became a major campaign issue for former city councilman Dan Hazard, who unseated incumbent judge Gary Byers in last November's election.
The new judge says six fewer people are working for the municipal court and he'll continue to address staffing issues to save money. A performance audit is also possible to identify other cost-cutting measures.
Byers is now the endorsed Democratic for a Lucas County commissioner's race later this year.
