(Toledo, OH) The Anthony Wayne bridge is about to brightly light up the night above the Maumee River.
An arts activist has successfully raised the necessary cash for Toledo Alight, a project to put an artistic spin on a $600,000 ODOT relighting project for the High-Level Bridge to complete its renovations.
A Bowling Green artist designed the 85-year old span's new lighting system, which includes an array of multi-colored, light-emitting diodes along its suspension cables and new floodlights at the base of its towners, along with the retention of the lantern-like lamps atop the towers.
Toledo's mayor will join fund-raisers at a press conference to present ODOT a $300,000 check to pay for the fancier lights. That same BG artist designed a a “Tower of Light” display at ProMedica's new corporate headquarters.
Add in the Veteran's Glass City Skyway lights and leaders say there will soon be a “Nautical Mile” of decorative lighting along the Maumee River downtown.
