Wear Blue Day Takes Aim at Child Abuse, Neglect

(Toledo, OH) You'll see a lot of people wearing blue today-- and there's good reason.

Wear Blue Day in the Toledo metro area is encouraging schools, offices, businesses, agencies, and nonprofits to take a stand against child abuse. Lucas County Children Services is asking the community to snap photos of everyone wearing blue and post them to the agency's Facebook page.

The child protective agency saw nearly 1,600 cases of abuse and neglect in 2017-- two-and-half times the number just six years ago.

The blue pinwheel is the symbol of Child Abuse Prevention Month, so kids also can combat abuse and neglect through a coloring contest at local library branches.

In Wood County, caseworkers are placing 873 blue pinwheels outside a Bowling Green car dealer-- representing the number of investigations and families assisted in 2017.
