State To Help Schools Affected By Davis-Besse

(Oak Harbor, OH)   State officials will provide financial aid to a northwest Ohio school district affected by lower property values at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant.

A new state law will provide more than $5 million to the Benton-Carroll-Salem schools over three years.

District officials say it won't offset the loss of taxes from Davis-Besse, but will bridge a funding gap until voters decide a tax levy next month.

First Energy Solutions filed for bankruptcy protection over the weekend and announced the nuclear power plant would close in 2020. That will mean the eventual loss of 700 jobs and millions in tax revenue for the school district.
