Congressman Ask Trump to Save Davis-Besse

(Oak Harbor, OH) Northern Ohio's congressional delegation is joining the fight to save the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant.

Toledo Democrat Marcy Kaptur and three other Ohio congressman sent a letter to President Donald Trump, asking him to support nuclear power. The letter describes nuclear power as vital to national security-- stating the “commercial atomic power sector is necessary to keep uranium-processing technology away from terrorists and other bad actors.”

Nuclear power is taking a hit from discovery of large deposits of natural gas and advancements in drilling technology that have driven down the price of electric generation at natural-gas plants.

FirstEnergy has said it will complete a review this year of its coal and nuclear power plants-- among its options, selling Davis-Besse or closing it. If the nuclear plant closes,

Benton-Carroll-Salem schools will lose a quarter of its annual tax funding, more than $4.6 million.
