Housing Improvements Head to Old South End

(Toledo, OH) The Old South End is about to get a major home makeover.

The Historic South Initiative will get a $50,000 dollar boost today from the Fifth Third Foundation in its private efforts to rehab at least a dozen owner-occupied homes along Crittenden Avenue.

The foundation's Strengthening Our Communities Fund awards grants to nonprofit programs that support homeownership, affordable housing, and financial stability for individuals and families.

That money will be paired with two-year funding from the state totaling $300,000 to pay for improvements for qualified homeowners for things like new windows, doors, siding, and roofing.

The effort is aimed at improving the overall housing stock along the Broadway corridor, with work to start this spring.
