Abortion Rights Protest to Target ProMedica

(Toledo, OH) Pro-abortion activists will stage a protest over a recent Ohio Supreme Court ruling today in Toledo.

Justices ruled last week there's no valid transfer agreement between Toledo's lone remaining abortion clinic and a hospital, so Capitol Care Network only will be permitted to perform abortions using medication.

That decision has angered pro-choice forces, who plan to put public pressure on ProMedica and St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee to sign such a transfer agreement to increase abortion access to Northwest Ohio women.

The executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio says either hospital should sign on or be considered what the group calls "part of Governor John Kasich’s quiet strategy to eliminate abortion access in Ohio."

A protest is planned outside ProMedica Toledo Hospital on Monroe Street from 4 to 6 p.m.
