Snowstorm Will Help Two Wintertime Festivals

(Wood Co., OH) A snowstorm hits just in time for Perrysburg's annual Winterfest weekend.

This year's event in downtown Perrysburg coincides with the start of the Winter Olympics, so organizers are planning some competitions with a theme of "Going for the Gold." Live ice carving demonstrations kick off Winterfest this evening, along with some ice games, including curling, an Olympic ring toss, and a tic tac toe toss.

Fire pits and s'mores will greet families who want to watch Olympic opening cermonies on a big-screen TV. Saturday's events include an ice carving competition, local food tastings, and a "Rock the Blocks" benefit. More than 15,000 people attend the winter events each year.

Bowling Green is hosting its tenth annual Winterfest BG Chillabration this weekend. Organizers dub the three-day event the "Coolest Weekend of the Year" with a Frozen Swamp tent that features a winter market by day and a beer garden with live music at night.

There are public skates at the Slater Family Ice Arena throughout the weekend.  Hockey and curling also will be featured, along with a chili cook-off, a Frostbite Fun Run, youth dodgeball, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Ice sculptures and carving demonstrations round out a full schedule of events.
