(Bowling Green, OH) You could say this winter is twice as bad as last year's-- at least by ODOT metrics.
As of Thursday, ODOT reports using just under 59,000 tons of road salt-- nearly two-and-a-half times as much as last winter at this time. The same ratio holds true for liquid de-icer-- nearly three million gallons.
ODOT plow crews have driven 811,000 miles in snow and ice in District Two, twice as many as last winter.
The cost of this Northwest Ohio winter before today's big blast of snow-- approaching $6.4 million, nearly three million more than last winter at this time. But plenty of weekend snow will drive that pricetag even higher.
