Lucas County Officials to Host Jail Meeting

(Toledo, OH) Lucas County leaders may get an earful over their latest site to place a new lock-up.

Lucas County commissioners, the sheriff, and top county administrators are hosting a public meeting tonight to give more information on a proposed 650-bed county jail to be located on recently-purchased land in North Toledo. The site sits between the former Raceway Park and the Raintree Village mobile home park along Alexis Road.

A recently-formed Facebook group is planning to pack the meeting to oppose the potential site as a safety threat. Commissioners contend the site has utilities, proper zoning and won't encroach on residential neighborhoods.

A levy to pay for construction of the 180-million-dollar,jail is expected to be placed on the November ballot.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the EMA training center in downtown Toledo.
