Court Settlement in NEXUS Pipeline Case

(Akron, OH) The hopes of Northwest Ohio opponents of the NEXUS pipeline may be dashed.

There's a court settlement under consideration in Northeast Ohio, where Green city officials had sued to stop construction of the controversial high-pressure natural gas pipeline. NEXUS backers are offering the Akron suburb $7.5 million  and the donation of 20 acres for parkland in exchange for easements to build the pipeline.

NEXUS would also monitor the pipeline around the clock for problems.

The Summit County community had sued NEXUS over property rights-- one of the same arguments being made by opponents elsewhere.

Green City Council will vote on the court settlement at a special meeting Wednesday night. The deal would end the biggest court challenge to the pipeline's progress across northern Ohio.

The pipeline's proposed route across northern Ohio would cross several counties in the region.
