$2 Million Geared to Battle Infant Mortality

(Toledo, OH) Two local health care groups will receive a big state grant to battle infant mortality.

The Ohio Department of Medicaid is awarding the The Toledo Lucas County Health Department and Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio more than $2.2 million for community initiatives to decrease infant deaths. The combined efforts of those agencies is to lower mortality rates for black infants, which is consistently higher than that of white infants. 

The two groups will seek increased community collaborations with agencies and organizations who have established relationships within the African American population. 

The Hospital Council plans to use its funding to add 13 more community health workers.
